Role/Department:
Reporting into the Chief Privacy Officer, the role will be responsible for developing, maintaining, driving and overseeing the execution of the Privacy Risk Strategy and Framework activities across the APAC region to ensure Northern Trust complies with all the applicable Privacy regulations. In addition, the role will contribute to and align with the organizational strategies and the Global Privacy Program, Policies and Standards across Northern Trust globally.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
- Develops and administers any Privacy Risk strategies, frameworks and programs required to ensure Northern Trust manages risks associated with Business operations in APAC and complies with all the applicable Privacy regulations.
- Works closely with stakeholders globally, in particular across key governance, infrastructure and operations locations including the US, UK, Singapore, Australia, India and the Philippines.
- Acts as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all APAC privacy and data protection-related matters and supports the Global Privacy Team, Business Units, Risk, Compliance, Technology, Data Governance and other stakeholders with less experience or knowledge on specific compliance topics to drive and sustain a culture of Privacy compliance.
- Monitors, reviews, assesses and communicates privacy and data protection developments within the APAC region.
- Be the “Trusted Adviser” to support Business Units and Operational Functions to embed Privacy risk and compliance into day-to-day activities and keep privacy risk management and compliance foremost in everything that we do.
- Owns and manages the APAC privacy rules, contributes to the global Privacy Compliance Risk Assessment, conducts monitoring of privacy risks and control effectiveness, and implements applicable privacy and data protection policies and procedures as necessary.
- Assesses impact from and manages responses to privacy incidents impacting Northern Trust information, drafts client notification and regulatory reports and supports Business Units to adopt and deliver privacy remediation plans.
- Oversees the execution of Privacy risk monitoring and testing, and supports the development of metrics and reports advising management of potential compliance risks and issues and recommending control enhancements where needed.
- Represents Global Privacy in Business reviews, ad-hoc programmes and other internal/external forums as required.
- Compiles and provides timely, accurate, concise and high-quality reports on Privacy Risk to the Chief Privacy Officer, Business and Risk Committees and other stakeholders as directed.
- Supports the Chief Privacy Officer with the development, maintenance, execution of the Privacy Risk Framework and other Privacy risk reduction initiatives as directed.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Seasoned multi-disciplinary professional with extensive regulatory, technical, business and functional knowledge and experience in Privacy Program and Framework development capabilities, development of Privacy Policies and Standards.
- Knowledge of risk management and strategic goals for the bank's business and the financial services industry.
- In depth knowledge of regulations impacting Privacy Risk and financial services regulations, acquired through formal education and work experience is required.
- Proven ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and concise manner to diverse and senior audiences.
- Proven track record in leading privacy risk and incident management and compliance strategies, policy and governance frameworks, implementation of controls to effectively manage compliance risks.
- Experience and knowledge of existing working practices in the financial services industry, including provision of technical advice, risk management, outsourcing, information security controls, data protection impact assessments, and governance and compliance.
- Highly flexible and proven ability to adapt to changing priorities, whilst maintaining focus on organization and team activities.
- Strong written and oral communication and analytical skills are necessary to consult with partners/clients, and analyze information and apply regulations.
- Self-starter, able to work independently, and proven exceptional learning agility with a keen desire to support the learning of others.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, stakeholder management and influencing and conflict resolution skills.
Experience Required:
- Minimum10 years of experience in privacy risk management (includes compliance, operational risk, legal, IT Risk, business process management, audit).
- Minimum10 years of experience in the financial / banking industry.
- Must possess at least a Bachelor's Degree.
- IAPP – Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or equivalent Privacy certifications are preferred.
- Privacy Risk Framework Management experience and/or experience of providing Privacy advisory support to other business areas within a financial services environment.

Covers APAC Timezones, Mondays-Fridays
