The Data Mesh Director will lead the Data Mesh Platform and Enablement teams and establish a community of practice.  He/she reports into the Shared Services Head of Architecture, Automation, and Accelerators and will partner with the firm’s Head of Corporate and Digital Strategy. The responsibilities include driving strategy, delivery and support of the Data Mesh platform. Role engages with senior leadership across business and technology to help deliver data solutions catering to the business’ needs.

The data mesh is a foundational component that anchors in a vision to drive our digital foundations, grow our client partnerships and reduce data risk by empowering our partners and ecosystem with the trusted data they need, when and how they need it, delivered through a secure and intuitive data marketplace.  An ideal candidate must have internalized the vision of "business driven IT enabled" data strategy and fully committed to realizing faster business values and do what it takes.

Data Mesh is a construct for managing complex enterprise data and a prescription for delivering business values. Applying data mesh requires a paradigm shift from IT-centric activities to a data-driven culture that embraces these four principles

  • A product thinking approach delivering useful data that are trusted and reusable in variety of use cases
  • A decentralization approach from centralized data management to domain data owners and SMEs
  • A self-service platform enable producers market its data, consumers greater ease of access and promoting a vibrant market place
  • A federated distributed governance model with overarching governance

This role will manage a team of ~20 employees and contractors and annual delivery of $5 million in projects. Management activities include oversight for employees, contractors, projects, BAU efforts as well as overseeing core data mesh technologies used: Snowflake, Talend, SecuPi, Airflow, Collibra, etc. Also includes day to day management and maintenance of the application software and engaging with other peer managers in ensuring broad delivery of analytics across the portfolio.

Major Duties

  • Working with the Data Mesh product owner to:
    • Ensure user satisfaction
    • Address user concerns
    • Prioritize projects, enhancements, and defect fixes
  • Project Ownership:
    • Provide estimates for proposed Projects and Dockets for owned TLAs
    • Provides project planning including docket prioritization and capital or expense budget considerations
    • Work with solution architects, BAs, process specialists, and lead developers to ensure that project designs adhere to appropriate design patterns and technical standards
    • Work with Product Owners, Project/ScrumMasters to:
      • Ensure that business owner priorities are being reflected in our work program
      • Ensure that timelines are being met
      • Ensure that budgets are being met (capital/expense)
      • Ensure that work products meet the expectations of our business partners
      • Ensure that project status reports are being produced and shared with stakeholders
      • Ensure that change management standards are being followed (including the review and approval of installation plans and change requests)
      • Ensure that installations are conducted so as to minimize production stability risk
    • Provide monthly actuals and forecasts in the enterprise financial management system (i.e. EPIC)
    • Representative of  IT impacts of changes to owned TLAs for all change control boards (e.g. SS Change Reviews, CAB, and MCAB)
  • Personnel Management 
    • Hiring / Onboarding and associated expense management
    • Employee Performance Management (goal setting, periodic feedback, mid-year and annual reviews, compensation mgmt., etc.)
    • Develops periodic goals, organizes the work, sets short-term priorities, monitors all activities, and ensures timely and accurate completion of the work
    • Conducts performance management and career development processes, provides input for staffing and disciplinary actions and provides hands-on training to staff
    • Contractor Management (onboarding / offboarding contractors, monitoring spend, approving timesheets, providing performance feedback to vendors, etc.)
  • Resource Management
    • Assigning resources to projects & production support tasks
    • Reviewing / maintaining the department resource plan for both employees and contractors

  • A College or University degree in Computer Science and/or relevant proven work experience is required
  • Knowledge of programming languages, various business applications, the computer industry, and various design and programming techniques is required to direct systems projects and resolve business problems with effective computer utilization.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills are needed for systems guidance.
  • Leadership and organizational skills are required to determine the unit goals, resources needed, and to assess and develop the skills of the staff.
