Role Purpose:

A senior role within the Market Advocacy & Innovation Research team, representing Northern Trust within the industry and providing advocacy in relation to industry change and market innovation.  The role incorporates executive level interaction within Northern Trust, together with external senior collaboration with key industry bodies, regulators and governments in order to positively influence market change in line with Northern Trust’s strategic direction. 

The role also calls for the partner to leverage their FinTech knowledge to conduct research and identify opportunities to support Northern Trust’s business unit COOs and Management Group with strategic decisions within the enterprise.   

In addition to the above, the role requires senior level client and prospect engagement together with the demonstration of thought leadership via involvement in media and industry publications and conference speaking. 

Key Responsibilities: 
Actively engage/lead with industry bodies (industry groups, regulators and governments) and  lobby where necessary in order to influence market change in line with Northern’s vision     
Shape market change in line with NT’s strategic direction by positioning partners on key influential industry bodies and by engaging with financial services firms, technology firms and challenger organisations
Inform the bank’s strategic approach to technical innovation, investments and developments
Identify and framing new business opportunities
Providing active leadership and research to capture and inform partners on emerging trends, opportunities and threats to Northern Trust’s enterprise through; research and external engagement, identify opportunities and threats together with macro industry themes affecting Northern Trust’s enterprise
Shape ongoing research into the threats, impacts and opportunities from new technologies, market disruptors and challenger firms to inform strategic decisions across the enterprise
Distribute through multiple channels research findings to Northern’s partners’ engagements
Demonstrate thought leadership during the sales process, for clients and internal parties
Ongoing assurance of MA&R framed initiatives
Provide consultancy services to business unit COOs for specific engagements in line with above accountabilities
Provide press and industry interviews when required (requires partner to be NT media approved)  
The Person:

A forward thinking individual with proven business leadership
A track record of identifying industry trends and building out strategic opportunities 
Ability to create a concept, build a pilot/prototype and facilitate the commercialisation of concept
Ability to build and maintain effective relationships across Northern Trust’s enterprise and key external industry groups
Prior experience of working in Custody or Asset Servicing would be beneficial
Be able to present complex technical ideas/solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Application of design thinking principles and methodologies
Knowledge of cutting-edge technologies e.g. artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain, robotics 
Ability to engage with and build commercial partnerships with senior client stakeholders.
Ability to influence and persuade at all levels
Senior stakeholder management  
Excellent interpersonal and diplomacy skills
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
