As a Portfolio Lead, you will manage and direct a team of product designers that translate client, partner and business needs into exceptional digital experiences across devices.
What You Will Do
The Product Design Portfolio Lead is a collaborative, strategic-minded individual who leads with empathy, takes ownership of projects and:
• Manages design across a portfolio of projects and products through scoping, execution and deployment
• Work with Business partners to deliver on business and user objectives, realizing value through differentiated user experiences
• Contributes to an open culture that enables employees’ development through direct but kind feedback, promotes diverse perspectives and fosters a sense of curiosity and optimism
• Mentors and oversees a team of direct and indirect reports, working in an agile environment, across multiple products and business units.
• Evangelizes and contributes to Northern Trust’s Digital Design System
• Contribute to strategic UX leadership within the larger enterprise and across product teams, ensuring a unified experience and vision across products.
• Provides creative direction and conducts design reviews, balancing design decisions between research, technology and business unit objectives
• Guides the design of user-experiences and data visualizations, from low-fidelity sketches to hi-fidelity pixel perfect mockups in Sketch
• Measures recently released product features to establish benchmarks and identify potential areas of improvement
Your Knowledge and Skills
As a Product Designer, you must have experience with at least some, but not all, of the following:
• Education in design or related field, or equivalent experience
• Design thinking and UI/UX best practices, as demonstrated in a work portfolio
• Experience managing design teams and working closely with business stakeholders and/or product owners
● Ability to recognize, predict and incorporate use cases and user interactions in design
• Understanding of information design/architecture, gestalt principles and user psychology
• Proficiency in creating production-ready UI designs.
• Experience working with a cross-functional team or large-scale software development lifecycle, preferably in an agile environment
The following nice-to-haves represent just a few of the other experiences that may be relevant to this position:
• Experience creating and implementing accessible (WCAG 2.1) designs
• Experience using or building design systems
• Proficiency in graphic design, motion graphics, digital art, as well as a sensitivity to typography, color, layout and a general awareness of materials/textures
