Through NTSI, institutional and wealth management clients partner with dedicated professionals to create tailored trading programs focused on optimizing execution quality and minimizing trading costs across all major global markets and currencies.

The Northern Trust Securities President is responsible for the management and oversight of all institutional and wealth management brokerage functions for the Americas region, providing leadership and guidance to subordinate managers. The role has overall accountability for the performance management and career development programs for the business line.  This role is key to Northern Trust’s institutional brokerage strategy in North America, including Integrated Trading Solutions (ITS).

Major Duties

  • Oversees, plans, and directs the strategy for the US brokerage business, ensuring that the business objectives are being met
  • Responsible for managing multiple units or functions through the direct management of a group of managers including , US Sales and Sales Trading, Trading and US Options, and brokerage Operations
  • Responsible for strategic client relationship development, client satisfaction and profitability within the region
  • Ensures client satisfaction is delivered with all products and services, processes, and resources for the region
  • Manages relationships with institutional and wealth management partners to support focus on client satisfaction, risk management, and client delivery services
  • Manages relationships with asset management partners in support of the use of the brokerage FINRA licenses
  • Maintains strong relationship with National Financial Services in the execution of clearing firm services
  • Develops, recommends, and directs the execution of programs, including outsourcing strategies, designed to achieve strategic objectives for the business and  for complex institutional relationships
  • Develops periodic goals, organizes the work, sets short and long-term priorities, monitors all activities, and ensures timely and accurate completion of the work
  • Develops, implements and communicates an overall strategy to meet both the Business Unit's and Corporation's strategic plan. Directs the activities of those areas toward accomplishing those objectives
  • Assumes accountability for financial and staffing resources, including developing and managing capital and expense budgets, liaising cross-function to improve efficiency, effectiveness and productivity
  • Provides detailed analysis of revenue streams and trends, owns expense management and financial performance
  • Assumes full accountability for the performance  and profitability of the region  as compared to the plan  
  • Assumes full accountability for the risk management oversight of the business line in the region
  • With the support of the brokerage CCO ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements of the FINRA, SEC, and Federal Reserve agencies
  • Chairs the NTSI Board

Knowledge/Skills

  • Seasoned leader with extensive business experience, and broad functional expertise, with focus on proactive strategic leadership
  • Deep knowledge / expertise of US capital markets is required
  • Intensive knowledge and understanding of markets and market structure, including electronic and algorithmic trading
  • Strong experience in the US sell side equities and bonds franchise
  • Strong buy side relationships at trading and senior C-suite levels
  • Technology leader/champion to enable growth and development
  • Knowledge of business strategy development is necessary to provide long term planning and to manage the profitability/performance of a major business segment
  • Leadership and organizational skills are required to direct the activities in the region and navigate across the organization
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required
  • In-depth knowledge of the securities industry
  • Proven track record in leading change and strategic implementation
  • FINRA Licenses 7, 24, and 63
