Relationship Manager (Guernsey)

Department description:


Global Family Office (“GFO”) is a sales and client servicing team dedicated to supporting very wealthy families and their charities and foundations. With over $200mm in investable assets, these families act like institutions but require a personal and high touch approach, as well as the highest level of discretion. Our families wealth is mixed in nature with some being multi-generational inherited wealth and some being new entrepreneurial wealth.   


An Account Manager acts as the day to day client contact for our family members, family offices and their nominated representatives. They also act as a central point of contact internally and work closely with the Relationship Manager to provide the level of service clients expect from Northern Trust.

Wealth Management clients take a broad range of products and services from Northern Trust including asset servicing, fiduciary, fund administration, investments and banking and require a very personal and attentive level of support. 


The successful candidate will be responsible for:


• Build trusted relationships through engagement, effective communication and actions.
• Facilitate implementation of sophisticated wealth plans based on the direction given by the client and their advisors
• Proactively raise client concerns or challenges and using Northern Trust’s global network of experts, assist the client in finding a positive and workable solution
• Discuss general financial forecasts and industry trends with clients
• Work with and provide support to the Account Management staff as necessary, and maintain close ongoing liaison with clients and advisers on more complex matters
• Be an advocate of Northern Trust, ensuring that clients, advisors and prospects know about our business developments, themes Northern Trust are seeing and solutions we can provide
• Actively assist in the sales process and the identification of opportunities to expand client relationships
• Where required, discharge fiduciary duties in line with procedures, the relevant documentation and document decision making thoroughly
• Leading by example, foster an environment which encourages employee participation, teamwork and communication
• Review and consider client profitability and identify/address where fee levels are inappropriate
• Undertake annual client review of your client relationships ensuring that family structures / assets are correct and documented accurately


The new post holder will benefit from having:


• Strong knowledge of Fiduciary and Guernsey regulatory environment
• Direct experience in interacting with demanding clients and meeting their needs
• Structured communication skills: ability to communicate complex ideas and ask targeted questions to arrive at solutions
• Highly flexible and adaptable to change, self-motivated and able to operate independently to drive results
• Excellent organizational skills and comfort in prioritizing competing demands
