Role Purpose

Based in London, the role is for a Risk Management Consultant within a Risk & Compliance team operating in a successful international Asset Management business.  Reporting to the Regional Chief Risk Officer, the role offers excellent exposure to someone looking to further develop their career in an asset management focusing on collective portfolio management and individual portfolio management activity.  

Acting as a partner to Risk & Compliance team members, managers and staff in the international Asset Management business, the incumbent will provide consultation and advice on risk related matters whilst maintaining close working relationships with the group stakeholders to ensure alignment with policies and approaches across the business. This role will work as part of a small team and act as the primary contact for Risk Management queries.

The incumbent will support the regional Chief Risk Officer by maintaining Risk Management Frameworks, policies and procedures to meet regulatory requirements, with a particular focus on Operational and Prudential risk.   
Duties 

1. Reviews, disseminates, and interprets risk management policies, frameworks and procedures.
  
2. Provide hands-on technical support and oversight across the business to ensure operational risks are identified, assessed, remediated and managed appropriately – driving process control enhancements across the business.

3. Conducts risk incident investigations and lessons learnt analysis; documents findings in accordance with operational risk management standards; produces thematic reviews and reports outcomes to local and global risk oversight forums.

4. Independently analyze and verify that business change activities are within the agreed the risk appetite and tolerances of entity; act as risk management representative on business and regulatory change programmes.

5. Supports regional Chief Risk Officer in to develop and deliver operational Prudential Risk and ICAAP related processes; liaising with specialists in prudential risk, model risk and legal entity risk reporting.

6. Co-ordinates engagement with business stakeholders to develop key risk scenarios, reverse stress tests and other inputs to regulatory capital planning processes.

7. Performs operational due diligence on fund distributors; determines the level, frequency and manner of oversight required.

8. Supports regional Chief Risk Officer in interaction with regulators, and internal & external auditors on risk management topics, as needed and appropriate.

9. Provide the necessary guidance and oversight to first line business units, ensure completion of the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) process in line with group standards.

10. Manage operational risk reporting to feed into the risk wide reporting & MI framework both globally and locally.

The successful candidate will benefit from having

Strong background in Operational Risk and prudential desirable; sound understanding of investment management products and services with in depth understanding of securities, cash and derivatives market instruments.
Good Experience of incident and breach reporting.
Good knowledge of operational risk regulatory requirements (FCA) and other relevant guidelines and inputs (e.g. Basel, MifidII) as well as an understanding of the UCITS regulations.
Demonstrable ability to make change happen based on experience and knowledge of operational risk challenges.
Able to work collaboratively across the immediate team and broader Risk function and lead initiatives that ensure a holistic approach to support the business and ensuring risk management is seen as an integral part of every team.
Detailed Analytical ability to identify and understand problems and provide effective solutions.
Highly motivated individual who has a proven record of using initiative to resolve problems.
Highly articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Graduate (or relevant professional qualification) is desirable.
Confident and able to challenge and influence the senior decision makers within the business.
Experience of communicated advanced & complex risk findings & results to an audience with varying degrees of sophistication by breaking down complex information & appropriately limiting technical jargon; challenging & encouraging others to do the same.
Several years of Operational Risk management experience.
