The Business Advisory Services (“BAS”) team provides advisory services to owners of privately-held companies to support them in preparing their businesses for a sale. The group works with the owners, the management teams and, in many cases, other family members and advisors to develop succession, liquidity and exit plans, as well as to prepare for and execute divestitures.

The BAS team is not an investment bank, but instead they work with clients to ensure that they and their enterprises are ready for the rigors of a sale process. BAS remains involved through the closing of the transaction, assisting with the hiring of professional advisors (typically Investment Banks, Accountants and Attorneys), paying close attention to the deal process and providing an unbiased perspective as needed.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  1. Contribute to a variety of business assessments and succession, exit and liquidity planning processes, from initial client meetings through actual execution
  2. Interfacing with clients and other intermediaries within all phases of the planning and execution of transactions and other liquidity events
  3. Drafting marketing documents, as well as business assessment summaries and transaction-related documents and memos
  4. Conducting industry, market, and technical research
  5. Valuation analysis and financial modeling, including bottoms-up cash flow modeling
  6. Communicate financial information and complex strategic issues in a clear manner

The successful candidate will benefit from having:
  • 3+ years accounting experience, perhaps with exposure to investment banking, private equity, commercial banking or Financial Due Diligence
  • An excellent academic background including an undergraduate degree with a major in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or Economics
  • Preferably a CPA and the candidate may be aspiring to gain an MBA
  • Experience conducting primary research for companies and industry sectors
  • Ability to build bottoms-up cash flow models incorporating operating-level metrics as drivers
  • Strong analytical, comprehension and problem solving skills including an emphasis on verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple, complex projects with attention to detail while meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Superior client interaction skills
  • Proficient with Excel, PowerPoint and Word.  Experience with Capital IQ would be an advantage
