Responsible for improving data quality across the organization by implementing and maintaining an institutional data management framework. Checks for compliance to policies, standards and processes that will be developed and maintained to support the data governance function. As subject area expert, consults on the best practices for master data management across the organization. 

1.    Responsible for stewardship of master data including but not limited to party, account, reference and product data
2.    Assess, manage, maintain strategies that reduce data redundancy and increases the consistency / confidence of data used for decision making; improving knowledge firm-wide.
3.    Enforce/check compliance with data management standards, processes and controls and content for the creation and maintenance of common data dictionaries.
4.    Participates in periodic reviews to ensure continued compliance with the data governance policies (includes compliance assessments, monitoring and control testing).
5.    Implement Metadata strategy within Northern Trust. This includes review of metadata and the consulting help required to implement business and technical metadata
6.    Assist with adoption of the Enterprise metadata repository
7.    Expertise in data lineage and mappings. Ability to implement data lineage as per the data lineage standards, ability to perform source to target mappings
8.    Work with business units on building out the enterprise reference data capabilities including identification, rationalization and establishment of data ownership and governance
9.    Role is balanced between high level operational execution and development, and execution of strategic direction of business function activities.
10.    Responsible for direct interaction with data governance committees and/or management.

 

1.    A College or University degree and/or relevant proven work experience is required. 
2.    Experience working in Data Governance, Data Quality, and Enterprise Data Management, ideally in the Financial Services with focus on Master Data management.
3.    Understand and be capable of effectively communicating the role of Data Governance to both business and technical communities within the sphere of the data domain.
4.    Knowledge of data concepts and best practices on data governance.
5.    Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. 
6.    In-depth Functional / Industry Knowledge is required, preferably in Asset Management
7.    Knowledge of Asset Management data domains and data is preferred
8.    Ability to influence and build consensus across organizational boundaries
