The Front Office Solutions (FOS) group is a newly launched business within Northern Trust Corporate & Institutional Services, centered around meeting the operational and technology needs of asset allocators with dedicated, in-house investment teams (such as  endowments, foundations, sovereign wealth funds, pensions, insurance companies and multi-family offices). Asset allocators have complex investment portfolios across a wide array of asset classes, and the FOS group is developing state of the art technology and services that will help our clients make informed business decisions about their investments.

The FOS business is growing, and we are looking for individuals that can help onboard clients as we win new business, as well as provide ongoing investment administrative support to facilitate our clients’ ability to analyze their assets and execute their investment strategy.

Responsible for the oversight of daily operational support for FOS clients, the Investment Data Administration function provides operational and technology solutions to complex asset allocators across the globe for investment data administration, portfolio reporting and analytics, and document management.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with investment professionals such as CIOs, asset owners, board directors, etc. to ensure understanding of client investment administration and portfolio reporting needs.
  • Work with client's operational staff on discovery, problem resolution, workflow management, etc.
  • Establish expectations, host discovery meetings, and guide client through the onboarding process.
    • Experience with project management, project lifecycle, project ownership, etc.
    • Import, normalize, and configure large amount of historical data sets from multiple systems into FOS technology platform.
    • Reconcile transactions, market values, and investment positions across multiple data sources. 
    • Understand investment historical data - work with client to ensure data mapping between systems is accurate.
  • Oversight and responsibility for ongoing daily investment data administration and operations; collect, assess, and enter data into FOS technology platform: valuations, transactions, fee entry, document management, investment statements.
    • Function as client’s primary point of contact for day to day support.  
    • Ability to build, manage, and nurture multiple client relationships.
    • Provides comprehensive, in-depth consulting and leadership to team and partners at a high technical level to support client needs.
    • Establish, implement, and deliver training and system education to clients.
  • Role is balanced between high level operational execution and development, and execution of strategic direction of business function activities.
    • Procedure and process creation, documentation, and implementation. 
    • Develop new business processes to streamline data aggregation and loading.
    • Responsible for direct interaction with different committees and/or management.
    • Carries out activities that are large in scope, cross-functional and technically difficult.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  • In-depth Functional / Industry Knowledge with complex asset allocators
  • Understanding of custodians, administrators, and service providers.
  • Multi-asset class operations knowledge - hedge funds, private equity, non-marketable securities, marketable securities, and currencies.
  • Deep understanding of alternative asset reporting, performance measure, liquidity measures, exposures, hedge fund accounting, capital calls, fee reporting, etc.
  • Basic investment concept knowledge (IRR, time-weighted return, NAVs, accruals, etc.)
  • Strong Excel Skills (excel pivot tables, charts, V-lookup, etc.)
  • Technical skills / systems knowledge (Investment Administration & Portfolio Analytics platforms)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Highly flexible and adaptable to change
  • Self-starter and curious

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  • Advanced data skills (Excel macros, VBA, Python, SQL, etc.) 
  • Experience with endowments, foundations, family offices, institutional asset managers, pension funds or sovereign wealth
  • Extensive experience in Alternative Investment Operations, Fund Accounting, or Performance and Reporting
QUALIFICATIONS

  • A College or University degree and/or relevant proven work experience is required. 
  • Related Industry qualification (e.g. CIPM, CDDA, CAIA, CFA, or CPA)
