About The Role:

 

The Tier 3 Analyst is responsible for detection, eradication, and prevention of security threats in the NT environment. The Tier 3 Analyst reviews malware and related security events that have been escalated  by Tier 1 and Tier 2 Analysts and conducts additional analytics to determine if event requires additional incident response actions by other parties outside of the NTC3.

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to the NTC3 Divisional Manager

Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Leads Tier 1 Analysts

  • Responsible for personal development through enhancement of technical skills and active participation in the performance management process

  • Continues to be research and understand new threats to increase knowledge base of the evolving threat landscape

  • Develops effective leadership and teamwork skills

  • Assists NTC3 Divisional manager in the department’s recruiting and retention efforts, as needed

Technical  

  • Conducts detailed reviews of malicious software to perform a cyber analysis and gain additional understanding of their threats

  • Provides recommendations for defining rules and malware signatures for enhanced detection and mitigation based on analysis

  • Conducts cyber intelligence analysis, coordination, and interaction across the network and infrastructure components

  • Provides recommendations and steps for eradication of malicious software and system recovery

  • Develop new tools or enhance existing tools for advanced detection

Assists in the incident response function with the analysis of malware and related security incidents as required

Competency Summary:

  • Detailed understanding of the cyber threat landscape
  • Ability to analyze security threats and attack vectors to assess its probability and impact on the organization
  • Skilled at developing mitigation strategies and determining the benefits, risks, and resource requirements of each
  • Can develop and prioritize recommendations for detection, analysis, containment, eradication of the incident and recovery of systems and networks
  • Can use forensic artifacts to understand and reconstruct cyber security incidents and attacks
  • Ability to identify and analyze malicious code to understand the impact on the organization, and knowledge of malware persistence techniques
  • Demonstrates innovative thinking, continuous learning and sharing of best practices

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience of supporting a threat identification and response program and a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, information security, or information systems
  • Ability to conduct detailed security event analysis from network traffic attributes and host-based attributes (memory analysis, binary analysis, etc.)
  • Ability to prioritize activities to support program execution
  • Familiarity with malware reverse engineering concepts
  • Prior scripting experience to enhance intrusion analysis efficiency
  • Two of the following certifications: SANS GCIA, SANS GCIH, SANS GREM, ENCE, Security+, CISSP
